Hiya all,
I'm looking through the archive but not finding anything particularly
useful. I'm having a problem with reverse IP lookups. I started seeing
messages like this from one remote server (aka not mine) within the last
few days:
stat=Deferred: 451-Reverse lookup for <my-ip> is currently unavailable,
this could be a...
Any ideas? I know why one would want to check DNS in both directions,
but I'm confused about how this would work when you use virtual hosts.
I'm not a DNS guru, but if I have "mail.site1.com" and "mail.site2.com"
on my raq, and another server reverses my IP, does it return a list of
all the domains? The first one? Random? Does it even matter (maybe
something else is wrong)? I would think that, if a program reversed
1.2.3.4 expecting host.domain.com (vhosted) and got something else
(server name), the program would reject that.
I just read one post that mentioned getting the IP block provider to set
up the reverse, which makes sense. A dial-up user can't set up a "legal"
reverse, and this is a similar situation. What should I point it to, the
name of the raq itself? Okay, well I'm going to look into this, but my
questions about vhosting and reverse lookups are still out there. :)
Thanks
