Re: [cobalt-users] good idea - Raq 2 as backup-fileserver?

a file server or on line back up a good idea? I was thinking I could have
retrospect from my OSX server dump files or just ftp to it or something.
Speed doesn't matter to me, as long as it would be done by morning...

I have used the older mips boxes for backup systems... and they worked
great.. however... they do have problems with the big stuff since the drives
are small and the speed is enough to make you fall asleep at your desk... I
have spent long periods of time waiting on it to transfer data... a 300 or
500 meg tgz can take too long to open to check a backup and it becomes
helpfull to transfer the file back to be opened... bottom line is
slooooow... but it works..

I would suggest if your data size permits... Turning off apache, the gui,
and basicly everything except ssh and then ssh or rsync your backup all
night...
