Yes, user john@xxxxxxxxxx is listed in virtusertable, along with various
permutations e.g. john@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, but still no joy receiving mail!

check virtusertable and see if John is in there.
not suggesting you edit the table but may give an indication
as to the trouble.
