Hi,
I am getting a usage from my cobalt RaQ 550 and usage from the IDC at my
ISP where my cobalt RaQ 550 is hosted.
The usage differs like this
ISP 11GB/ month
Cobalt 27 GB/ month
I was just wondering if my cobalt is generating it wrong...
The usage is located in /home/sites/sitename.com/logs/mail.log
And I am writing scripts to generate the site usage from that.
I have seen the GUI of the cobalt and that also shows it as 27 GB
----ISP-----
How ISP accounts for traffic.
ISP uses MRTG which checks what mail is coming to the interface and going
out from the interface.
----ISP-----
----Cobalt-----
How Cobalt calulates traffic.
Mail coming to each mailbox, it logs the size of the mail.
----Cobalt-----
Here how the two could be different, when if the sender sends mail to a
mailing list on the domain, and that mail is going to 10 other people's
mailbox on the server. Then ISP will only log the mail size once, while the
cobalt will log it 10 times..
Another thing to note is webmail, Anybody who uses webmail a lot, like for
eg Some user at some domain, ISP will not log the traffic if the sender and
reciever are both on webmail on the same server checking and sending mail
However the cobalt will log it that many times more...
Is this correct. Is my hypothesis right...
Anybody else having the same problem...
