My "bad attitude" reply was to mean, that Sun/Cobalt has been so slow on
releasing a patch for some items, that in many peoples eyes was a major
security risk, the Apache Exploit and the OpenSSL come to mind.
Pkgmaster was releasing patches and add-ons that many of us needed but were
afraid to install fro source since the boxes are so temperamental. Then Mike
at Solar starts releasing packages that worked and met or filled a need for
a alternate patch path. Then Brian at Nuonce releases mostly add-on and some
update patches. Both Mike and Brian give some away and some they charge for.
Nothing wrong with offering this, heck, Jeff Lassman and Gerald helped many
on the list and now have very profitable and honest businesses built from
that.
All of them, I feel have proven their worth and trust on installing the
items to our machines, heck Sun has released patches and updates that ended
up causing even more problems. So how you going to start to trust??
Zeffie seems to think that we should not trust these outside package
builders, but yet he offers to do repairs and give installs to others. Hmmm
confusing attack on his part.
All I meant on the post that caused the uproar of some is that with great
guys like Taco, Mike and Brian, Sun EOL'ing the cobalt line may not be so
bad. We have alternate avenues.
