no you have not completly hosed it. this is what you did wrong :)

it's really not good to build things in this manner.
I would suggest you find the last apache update and reinstall it as
needed... you might also try to find a error message to get a better idea
of what might of caused the failure...
I didn't break my devel box to see what it did exactly... and I wouldn't
think that your build was related to the failure... it could be that you
just need to remove the installed files? (It's a path thing)
tail -f /var/log/messages and so on...
