and just how does it do that unless the "you sent me a virus" email has a virus in it?
it won't meet any of the reasons mailscanner would be activated

He's trying to cut down on the number of "you sent me a virus" notifications. Since the latest worm is forging the sender address, the people you're sending notifications to probably didn't send you anything, so why notify them? Since the notification doesn't get to the person who's actually infected, but rather it gets to the unfortunate person who's address was used in the forged "From:" field, it's basically bogus.

I didn't turn off my postmaster notification, because I want to have some idea as to when things have died down a little, but otherwise I have turned off sender notification to cut down on useless CPU cycles and bandwidth.
