I would like to know the maximum hard drive size that can be installed in a Raq3/4. also,
I have 30gigs in my RAQ3i - but only see 20gig, probably since I did not do a reinstall, just dd'd to them to get them running
the Makes and models if poss? I beleive Maxtor are not good. Also Seagate is best and 80 gig is the largest. Is this true?
Depends upon if you ask Maxtor or Seagate. All IDE drives are mass produced, have little quality control and will die quickly if you have no backups. If you have good backups, you hard drives will stay running, no matter the brand (Murphie's law of hard drives). Buy the ones that meet the specs you want at the lowest price ... the biggest performance booster is usually a large drive cache built onto the drives. But to say one is better than the other is totally bogus, they are all unreliable if you have a bad one, others, from ANY manufacturer, will stay running for years. There is no way to tell which is better, it is all pot luck.
Just watch you don't overload your power supply with drives that draw too much current (amperage), such as 7200RPM drives should be not used in a Raq3, not sure of the other Raqs limitations on this.
