[cobalt-users] Updating the DNS via email

Ok, here is my second question. Our DNS servers are pretty quick, but
apparently the few important people at my work don't like having to navigate
the Cobalt UI system to update a nameserver entry.
Essentially what we are looking for is a way to update the DNS by sending an
email to an account on the machine and have the DNS automatically update the
records. So the body of email to that account would look something like:
------------------------
username: admin
password: PaSsWD-12873
add A somedomain.com 192.169.10.10
add A www.somedomain.com 192.169.10.10
add A mail.somedomain.com 192.169.10.11
add MX somedomain.com mail.hostingdomain.com
add PTR 192.169.10.11 mail.somedomain.com
add PTR 192.169.10.10 www.somedomain.com
add PTR 192.169.10.10 somedomain.com
modify A someotherdomain.com 192.169.10.123
modify PTR 192.169.10.123 someotherdomain.com
delete ALL testdomain.com
------------------------
And then a predetermined account would get a confirmation message before
changes are made.
Now the Pros I see to this are:
- extremely easy to update
- could (potentially) update hundreds of sites per email!
- no logging in, doesn't rely on Cobalt UI (I've broken our hosting UIs
about 5 times this week updating software)
- can update from anywhere
Cons of course:
- very insecure
- would have to setup PGP messaging on all client machines and server, even
behind
the firewall
- my boss wants to use this so resellers can update their clients domain
IPs.
+ extreme user management headache!!
I've done a bit of searching for something like this on Google but strangely
haven't even come across anything like it yet. Does anyone have any leads
as to a package which could do just this sort of thing?
Thanks,
Dan Brown
