No one is complaining about you giving away free stuff...but some are
complaining about your methods to give it away.
I suspect that the "free" offer was in part out of the goodness of your
heart, and also in part as a way to advertise.
I think it's an effective way to market, but then again, the usual use of
this list is not to overtly market a product/service.
