I have seen both on this. Some have gone to larger disks w/o any problems. Others have had troubles on raids. I don't know enough about the Linux software RAID to give you an absolute answer. I do know that as a rule of thumb, get the exact same model numer if you can. The raid won't be able to utilize a larger drive anyhow, unless you replace all your drives in the raid. If you can't get the same model anymore, then yes, might as well get a 40Gb.
