As a tip - you may want to make sure that the disk actually is failing.
I just had the same problem on mine this morning (Raq XTR 4 80Gb disks Raid 5)
I simply shut down, pulled out the drive, and inserted the same one back in, started back up.
The server is running fine, and now rebuilding the disk. It could have been a hardware fault, bad connection or even software that caused this. Or it may be a disk that is 'fixin to quit'
