Re: [cobalt-users] SPAM FILTER ON A RAQ4

Another nice addition to do somewhere from the cron at night:

Make a script like:

#!/bin/bash
wget http://basic.wirehub.net/spamlist.txt
touch access.new
cat access >> access.new
cat spamlist.txt >> access.new
rm -f spamlist.txt
makemap hash access.db < access.new
rm -f access.new

(WATCH the correct position of the <, or you'll lose your relay and block map, always back them up)

This will download a daily updated spamlist of a few megs in access format (few hundred thousand mailaddy's, open relays and spamhosts), and import it into the access block list, do it at night though, because it's a pretty intensive job to build a hash DB this size..

Furthermore you could implement spamhaus and ordb rules in your sendmail.cf, it'll check every mailaddress and relay server against a dynamic online list.., it does pull some traffic, but it'll save you quite some on spam too..

Is SpamAssassin the way to go?

Spamassassin ist definitely the way to go. The only problem I see
is that the server load may rise quite a bit. But that depends on the amount of emails that server has to handle.
