At the moment I'm in the midst of trying to move all the programs I
have running on an XTR over to a RaQ 3i (550). Once that is done I
will be doing exactly what you describe except that I only have 4x30G
drives. And while at the present I'm using RAID 0 on the XTR I may
well go to RAID 5. I will point out that the 550 OS, did support
adding external SCSI devices to the RaQ 3i even though this is not an
option with the 550. I suspect that Sun was planning to move
everything over to some form of 550OS to update older models when they
abandoned the RaQs and said to hell with it. I figure it will keep
the XTR usable for another 5 years. Just heed the warnings about
upgrading the ROM and let me know how you make out if you wind up
doing it first.
