Good luck. As that was never really an "official" product, and almost all
the products it was created for are EOL, I highly doubt anything will
happen with making a newer version.
You'll probably have better luck soliciting someone on this list, or
cobalt-developers, to create a new PKG (maybe look at what RaQ 550 does
for some ideas?). Or just ask for (or work out yourself) a HOWTO for
"regular" installation (from the .bin or an RPM) of a newer JDK like you'd
do on any other Linux server.
I would think you could just grab the RPM from Sun and install it by hand.
You'll have to manually edit the Apache config file to enable JSP support
for certain domains, but from what I can recall, that was needed with the
PKG version you're talking about anyway...? And I know there was a 'hack'
required to keep Tomcat from starting up too many threads and choking off
the server...
