I didn't get the earlier part of this thread, but ran into a situation where a
problem with mail on my raq4 was actually caused by a corrupted folders.dbx file
within Outlook Express.

The solution was to rename the folders.dbx file to something different like
folders.dbx.old and allow Outlook Express to recreate it.

It fixed the problem, but also lost all the info on the folders I was using at
the time.  There is some more information here and a link to a M$ Knowledgebase
