Thanks, it was that simple! I can't believe I was going thru pages of perl
code I feel like an idiot! Good call and I think it's probably a glitch in
the Package.

I had the same error. Solved it by a chmod 755 of the /etc/awstats
directory. Then everything works just fine.
I post this problem a few weeks ago on this list to see whether it was a
package problem or not. No answer to that :-(.
