[cobalt-users] Using RAID0 on RaQ 3i (550)

Is anyone using a RaQ 3i (or other model) upgraded to the 550 OS with
Raid 0.

As part of a plan to update the RaQ XTR I use in a production
environment, I purchased a RaQ 3i (550) w/ two 13G drives from Gerald.
This machine is intended to serve exactly two purposes: Give me a
chance to make notes on how to move everything I am currently running
(or want to run and can't because of the XTR's outdate PERL and
kernel) over to a 550 environment. Give me a machine I can put up on
my network for a few days, so I can update and configure the XTR.

My XTR is currently running RAID0, though I'm using a small
fraction of the 120G. In order for the 3i to have enough storage I
need about 15G. I chose RAID0 because one of the most important apps
I'm running is a proxy server and everything gets backed up every
night anyhow, so e-mail is about all I lose in a total crash.

When the RAQ 3i (550) arrived I told it to use RAID 0. As I was
learning the differences between the xtr and 550 OS, I noticed that I
have about 19G total where I should have had 26G. [It looked like it
was using RAID0 for the /home partition and mirroring everything
else. After much e-mail correspondence with Gerald I removed the disk
partitions and reinstalled the OS. Even though I selected RAID 0, the
RaQ 3i (550) configured itself using RAID1, at the moment I have 13G.

I am going to try to reinstall from the OSRCD once more, though I get
the feeling there is some ROM setting that is forcing it to RAID1
during the install before I can tell it to use RAID0.

Am I the only one who uses RAID0. Worst case is I use RAID1 and some
external storage but I'd like to know what is going on.
