OK you are getting closer to the answer to my question. Here is the setup
that I am running and I would like to gain more IP addresses. Right now we
have an internal network with statis IP addresses of 198.134.202.1 to
198.134.202.62 in which the Qube3 is assigned 198.134.202.7 using interface
1. Both external activities such us web server and e-mail and internal
activities like SAMBA use the same NIC. The internal IP address
198.134.202.7 is mapped to an external and/or real IP address so that the
server can be seen on the Internet, this mapping and/or pointing is done
using a Cisco PIX firewall, so the Qube3 only uses the internal address but
it is known to teh world by the external IP address (I hope you can follow).
So want I would like to do is run DHCP off of the Qube3 so I can have more
IP addresses for the location because I used all 198.134.202.1-62 IP
addresses so I thought I could run DHCP of the Qube3 and run multiple
computers off of one IP address (the Qube3 in this case). If I start DCHP
on NIC 1 I wonder what kind of numbers will the Qube3 use for the clients?
Will it work just fine, meaning will I be able to start a computer that is
connected to the same switch as the Qube3 and be live with an IP address? I
hope you can understand what I am trying to accomplish here, let me know
what you think.
Thanks in advance.
Santiago.
I think what you really want is to be sure you start the dhcpd daemon
so that it only gives out addresses for the correct interface. I have
a RaQ XTR (that I'm updating to a 550) but I believe what is most
important is that you simply change /etc/init.d/dhcdp so that the
command that starts the daemon only runs on one interface. e.g.:
daemon /usr/sbin/dhcpd eth1
assuming eth1 is your LAN.
