We are setting up a second parallel network for all of our network
backups to run over. When you back up a bunch of servers nightly, you
don't want that traffic on your normal links (also, many of our servers
are on different segments, so the backup traffic has to go through a
router). When you are backing up 10 megabytes per second, you need to
manage that traffic carefully, and having dual NICs in everything allows
you to offload it from the public network.
