Thnx Jeff for this. I just cracked it open, and found exactly what you said,
plain old Seagate ST380021A.
I've got 2 in the 550, so looks like I can just use the 'bracket' from the
supposed failed drive..still dealing with the resync/rebooting issue.
I've been powering up in 'boot from ROM' mode, and waiting for the resync.
The first time, it gives me, 'failed hard disk.'
The second time, resync's, then everything is fine.
The third time, boot up normally, then the trouble returns with the
resync/reboot loop.
Fourth boot is via 'boot from ROM' mode, resync's, then says failed drive.
Fifth boot via 'boot from ROM' mode, and is now resync'ing, and awaiting
status after it's done in about 62 minutes.
When I cracked it open, I saw the grey bracket. Does this bracket unscrew
from the Seagate HD?
thnx, Manny

Manny,
The 80gb Hard Drive for the Raq550's are easy to come by.
They just use the ST380021A Seagate Barracuta.
Just go to pricewatch.com and search for st380021a, you'll find many vendors
with them. Heck, BestBUY around the corner from me even stocks them in the
store.
The little mounting bracket that is required to add another drive to a
server is where SUN has us. They Refuse to sell the little bracket by
itself. So if you are looking to replace a failed 80gb drive, you can buy
one anywhere, BUT if you want to add a second drive to a 1 drive server,
you'll need to pay SUN their ransom.
my 2 cents..
- Jeff

Re: a 550 80GB hard drive, seems like these are hard to come buy.
Will any other 80GB hd's work instead of Sun's?
Sun's info:
X5301A
80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive 80GB 7200RPM IDE ATA Hard Drive Assembly For the
RaQ 550 Server Appliance.
