Ok. We found the underlying issue. The core spec in the rpm was busted.

fix below

as root from a shell exactly as I've posted. quotes & all

cp -p /etc/ld.so.conf /etc/ld.so.conf.old

echo "/usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib" >> /etc/ld.so.conf

/sbin/ldconfig
