Thanks but I was more thinking of some sort of user authentication. You have the ability to enter login/password on SMTP access within you mail-client.
Say only users on the server is allowed to send through the server.

Yes, SMTP has access lists as part of it's configuration files.
Look in /etc/mail/access
Alternatively, you could restrict port 25 it with a firewall (ipchains)
