There are a couple of boxes that are turnkeys that come preloaded with
FreeBSD 4.7
a decent GUI interface and Open WebMail as well as some other neat features.
One even has Hot Swap hard drives..
Down side is that if your looking for a more powerful CPU these units fall a
little short
since they both use Transmeta 500 Mhz CPU's. Not sure this is truly a down
side since
I question how many web/email servers really need much more CPU power.
Upside they are not so proprietary as the Cobalt units and because of the
lower power
and low heat CPU's there are no fans.
FYI - Both units use notebook hard drives and come standard with 20 GB units
but larger
are available up to 80 GB.
Another up sell.. ??
Matt Server is available for about $725 - Single 20 GB & 802.11 WiFi
Janus Server is available for about $1250 - Dual Hot Swap 20 GB & 802.11
WiFi
P.S. - Neither unit is rack mountable.
If anyone is interested in more information on these units feel free to
contact me off list.
Jerry

Hi Guys,
Some of our clients are getting also rumours about cobalt being
discontinued. This morning i got a request wheter we can offer similar
servers with the same ease to use.
So my question is are there any good (standaard) cobalt alternatives.
Robbert
