Hi there,

I've read that with a named update (somehwere before OS Update 5 I think)
the system
creates a user "named". this user runs the named daemon. maybe you have
accidently
deleted this user somehow ? it doesn't show up in the admin control panel
btw.

If you check the Cobalt updates on the sun site you'll see this named
updates which
indicates that a new user for this daemon is created.
