Re: [cobalt-users] FW: How to update the Qube 3 software

Dear all:

1. This message is from Eritrea, a country in the Horn of Africa. The
Internet connection here is very bad. We have a Qube 3 with the
follogind software installed:

BlueLinQ patch 1.0
Cobalt OS 1.0
Cobalt Web Cache 1.0
Qube3Patch 02,04,06,07,10 and 12

2. We want to update to OS 6.4, but the connection is so low that
anything above 1 Mb. is impossible to download. Someone else offered to
download the needed files, put them in a CD and send to me for
installation.

3. Qube3Patch03, needed to update to OS 6.2 is never available through
the BlueLinQ.

The Cobalt FTP site reports files like:
SunCobalt-AdaptiveFirewall-1.7-0.pkg Qube3-All-Security-4.0.1-13453.pkg Qube-All-System-1.0.1-9819.pkg Qube3-ml-Update-4.0.pkg Qube3-All-Security-2.0.1-8061.pkg Qube-All-System-4.0.1-13671.pkg Qube-en-Update-1.0.pkg

4. I am newbie to this, so I do not understand the nomenclature of this
files. Can they update the system?

Could somebody there give me a hand please? I have been following the
users list for a while (more than 2,000 messages) and nobody seems to
have my basic problem. My queries to Sun just receive automatic
answers.

Thanks,

Hi,

there is listing on the sun patch site which contains all patches for the qube 3 ever released (i hope). You should aks your contact to burn the entire structure onto the cd. That way, you -should- have any and all patch you'll ever need.

look into:

http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=cobalt/qube3.eng&nav=patchpage
for a list of all patches

http://cobalt-knowledge.sun.com/cgi-bin/kbase.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=kw7Ah1Jg&p_lva=&p_refno=011003-000006&p_created=1002142786&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTEwODQmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=
for the install-order

fwiw: i patched up a cube once from base, but i found that it was not possible to do it all in one run. Strangely enough, some updates claimed to "need" a previous update which was not listed, even with refreshing the bluling, and could not install. I ignored it for a day or two, and after that the bluelinq update list showed more/other updates and i was able to continue. With 2 or 3 of those stops, all updates installed fine.
