Actually verizon still requires authentication. I have a user on road runner
that has a verizon email address he does not want to get rid of. He has to
dial-up into verizon to get or send his mail. He called them and they said,
he would have to use the web based mail or the dial-up or switch from road
runner to verizon DSL.
