RE: [cobalt-users] How to stop SPAM senders?

I tried the zone edit test and I get the following.

OK, connected to 123.456.789.000...
< 220 www.xxxxx.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.10.2/8.10.2; Mon, 5 May 2003 19:57:54
-0500
> HELO edit.dnsvr.com
< 250 www.xxxxx.com Hello edit.dnsvr.com [64.21.143.22], pleased to meet you
> MAIL FROM:<test@xxxxxxxxxxx>
< 250 2.1.0 <test@xxxxxxxxxxx>... Sender ok
> RCPT TO:<test@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
< 550 5.7.1 <test@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>... Relaying denied. Please check your mail
first or restart your mail session.

So I would think that since it says relaying denied that is good. But why
does it say Sender ok?

You may want to check the sites you are hosting and make certain that
anyone running a formmail script is using a "secure" formmail script. Its
very common to see these script being abused.

Just a side note you may want to test your SMTP server using a tool such as
the SMTP utility available at zoneedit: http://www.zoneedit.com/smtp.html
You can be certain of what sendmail will pass through using this utility.
Responses from your server are printed for you.

HTH,
Chris
