[cobalt-users] Problem Qube 3 (again...)

Hi Folks,

JUST about had it with the Qubes. Have a Cobalt Qube 3 Pro (RAID) that is
down for the second time in two weeks. Saying "Checking disk." and stalling
there. Last time this happened I did a restore and everything was OK. Then
it died again over the weekend. This time that won't work.

This unit had replaced a Qube 2 that died last year and the Qube 2 was
fixed. Well I fire it up and can HEAR the drive trying to start, etc with no
luck. And IT is stuck at "Checking disk."

So since the Qube 2 only had one hard drive in it, I thought (?) I could
take a drive out of a PC and stick it in there and to the Restore and it
would format it, etc. but that does not seem to be working. Should this work
?

Also, the Qube hard drives sit on their sides. YEARS ago we had users and
the company I worked at at the time, that had purchased a deal for their
PC's that would let them place the "box" on it's side, on the floor. This
was pre-tower. These were IBM PS/2's running Seagate, etc. hard drives. Well
the hard drives starting having problems and in some cases, failing. We
contacted the drive manufacturers and were told that it was not recommended
that these units be on their sides and that that could cause drive problems.

What made me wonder about this again is that the drive I "borrowed" came out
of a new Compaq Evo that comes as a tower - BUT can be converted to a
Desktop - by changing how the drives sit ! So there MUST be something to
this (?)

Thanks,

Chuck
