Hello,
after an emergency change of network supplier, I have moved dns1, dns2 and
web server to the new address range.
aa.bb.cc.49/28
I changed the ip addresses via the front panel and then changed the dns
records (including the reverses) and web server addresses via the GUIs.
Most things are working, but there are a few problems with DNS.
1) nslookup gives:
*** Can't find server name for address aa.bb.cc.54: Non-existent host/domain
*** Can't find server name for address aa.bb.cc.55: Non-existent host/domain
*** Default servers are not available
I get the same result from all my servers. dns1 is a Qube3, dns2 is a Quve2
and web is a RaQ4.
2) DIG aa.bb.cc.54
; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> aa.bb.cc.54
;; res options: init recurs defnam dnsrch
;; got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 4
;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0
;; QUERY SECTION:
;; aa.bb.cc.54, type = A, class = IN
;; Total query time: 1 msec
;; FROM: host.domain.tld to SERVER: default -- aa.bb.cc.54
;; WHEN: Fri May 2 00:03:26 2003
;; MSG SIZE sent: 29 rcvd: 29
- I searched the archives and it states to check that dig "returns a
reasonabe result" - not sure exaclty what that means. And I have lent out my
DNS and Bind book :-(
3) webalizer is not resolving any domains - I'm fairly sure that it's
because that NSLOOKUP is not working.
I know that the new IP supplier is not able to delegate the 16 IP address
range to my dns servers yet, but should my own dns servers be able to handle
their own reverse lookups?
Thanks for any pointers
