I've heard many hundreds of recommendations for agoracart.com - but have no first hand experience.

As far as solutions go, we continue to develop using it for speed, flebility of design and the fact that it works on any server with CGI and perl on board.  The developer edition means we can deploy sites first and licence later, but the pricing model is something we're not overly keen on - each store buys a licence or uses our developer licence.

One of the biggest advantages this solution has, is that well built stores using it are indexed in almost no time COMPLETELY by Google and other bots - stores using this tool make a LOT of money when they are built properly...
