This worked on my 550, and might help you out on your Q3:
SSH into the server
su to gain root access
type the following commands:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail stop
rm -r /var/spool/mqueue/*
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail start
This will remove all queued mail on the server. You can check by typing in
mailq.
