...some hardware firewall protection. Smoothwall Corporate Edition - highly recommended. http://www.smoothwall.co.uk/ Pete the Feet
a quote from a page i found through uklinux.net, but i remember reading several things like it a year or two ago when I was trying to use an old 486 as a firewall for our business (and as my technical knowledge on this is near zero i cannot say there was any truth in any of the things i read at the time, or if they are still true,
"This machine ran SmoothWall, a firewall distribution which, whilst functional, I no longer use mainly due to the attitudes of the chief `developer' towards his user-base (unless having simple queries responded to with a volley of abuse is your idea of a good time). It has also become known that there are some severe security flaws in SmoothWall itself - whether or not you use it is, of course, up to you"
Now, I there was no date on this page, and as we all know EVERY system in use has had security flaws at some point. Also, you'll need a PC to run it on (smoothwall is software, so if security problems are discovered I guess its a plus in that it can be updated), and the person asking the question has very limited space so a small footpring hardware firewall is probably IMHO more appropriate in this case.
