I have a Qube3 with Solarspeed's sendmail patch applied. /var/spool/mail is 777; /home/spool/mail is 775. The link at /var/spool/mail has a date of 18 April 2001, which probably means it hasn't been touched since installation.
I never use pine, so I wouldn't know if it was behaving differently. All other mail functions are working.
