Altough my query is not for the device driver, as this seems to bee ok
with the kernel patch I have found, but more on the userland tools. I
want to use the panel-utils tools for controling the LCD and use the
buttons (from a debian installed system).

I believe that these tools aren't GPL, and they're probably not allowed for use outside of Sun's OS. Looked into this regarding Qbalt.

I think that the Cobalt patches in the main kernel tree area also outdated, so this probably won't work as well as you'd imagine. I had some updated stuff sent to me a while ago, so you can probably extract what you need from Qbalt when I release the ISO (in the middle of moving at the moment, so progress isn't going hugely fast).

Only way to get around that would be to write some new LCD tools.
