I think libpng might be correct installed but maybe "gd" not.

the way I understand this error is, that the gd trys to put/get data
to/from the libpng library
but not in the correct format. So the libpng library throw an error to
gd so that the png part
of gd throw an error to the logs. Maybe the version of libpng is not
compatible with gd ?

Notice ! ... not libpng paints the pictures ... its gd ... using
functions of libpng !

If you have gd ... you should also have some files like

pngtogd   convert png file to gd raw data format
gdtopng   convert from gd raw data to png file

you might test gd and png with this and read the man pages how to test gd !
