I notice that some motherboards have a Microchip PIC 12C508A microcontroller
close to the IDE connector. This microcontroller only has 8 pins, and is in
a socket.
Now some boards don't have the microcontroller, but have a jumper between
pins 1 and 8 of the IC pads, other boards have a jumper between pads 4 and
5.
Could this have something to do with the use of the 2nd IDE
connector?
Could this be the reason some ROM upgrades don't work?
What does this PIC microcontroller do?
Comments?
