Re: [cobalt-users] SSH totally hoses FTP Access?

At 12:24 PM 2/1/2003, you wrote:
OK, like a good boy I took all your advice and installed SSH on my RaQ4i. I
guess that it also installs a program called SFTP that makes it impossible
to login with a normal (ie: GUI from windows), FTP program.

I have been through the archives, and someone named Thomas mentioned that
they have gotten this to work with CuteFTP Pro. I downloaded the trial
version, and it says that it will work, but I can't get it to happen. I
would love to get some stack-brain-mode instructions on that.

If I can't login to FTP, and let my other users do the same easily, this SSH
is a bit overkill. Sure it's great security, but the fix is worse than the
problem? (There's no _way_ that I'm going to fool with file transfer through
a command line interface.)

Thanks,

Don't know where you got ssh, but I use ftp with it just fine. I got my ssh from pkgmaster.com.
I use wsftp for ftp and with ssh I use both putty and winscp.

Did you turn ftp off when you installed ssh?
to use ssh, you need to turn on shell access for the sites/users needing it.
