Ahhhh. I see now.

JA> but I don't think it is that easy :\ any ideas how this type

No. AFAIK, this isn't possible using BIND or djbdns. I've not
looked into PowerDNS.

Here's another question: How do you know a domain is registered
to you? If someone sends you a query for list.cobalt.com, what
do you do? Assuming you don't offer recursive lookups to the
outside world, BIND returns the most-specific referral it can;
said response is non-authoritative.

One could debate the importance of handling that correctly...
after all, unless glue records point to your nameserver, nobody
should send queries, right? Still, I think returning incorrect
info with AA set would be inappropriate. Now you're stuck
between doing that and having some config mechanism sort out
domiains for which you have DNS authority. Ughh.

This is one of the many things we, too, wanted. Originally, I
set out to hack up BIND, but I never made friends with the source
code. Instead, I've found myself writing a DNS server. Wheeeee.

I hope to finish development and merge all features into the beta
branch by the end of April. Let me know off-list if you'd like
to beta test...

...in the mean time, someone please post if something similar
exists. I've heard rumors of various BIND patches for added
functionality, but haven't attempted to verify any.
