I'm using openwebmail (the package from pkgmaster.com) and had some clients with "lost" mail as well.
It turned out, the mail was caught by the prebuilt filters as spam and copied to Trash ...
Too bad those filters can't be edited by the client ...
I got rid of them by placing an empty file "filters.book" into /home/openwebmail/cgi-bin/openwebmail/etc
