Bo,
Adding the All switch for Options is not a requirement to fix your "internal
server error", but could/would become necessary in the event you wish to use
various options within the htaccess file in the future.
I wouldn't make the change if it's not necessary.

Attention Jeff (or any one):
You advised that I add the following to the /etc/httpd/conf/access.conf
file:
Options All
AllowOverride All
I added "AllowOverride All" and it works.
Do I need to add "Options All" as well?
