Ehm,

you want to know why FTP/POP/IMAP is not working? Or the activity monitor?
You can do a "tail -f /var/log/messages" in telnet (root) to see what is
going on...
If anything is wrong with the services it should display in there...
Alternatively you may want to try a reboot IF those services are indeed not
working...
