I don't claim to be a security expert - not by any stretch of
the imagination. I did, however, start an openwebmail install yesterday
on a FreeBSD powered box from which I bailed out after finding out that
the Perl scripts must run under the superuser account. I didn't do any
research beyond that point, choosing instead to install another web
based email system that doesn't require superuser permissions to run.
Openwebmail may very well be as secure as Fort Knox - I'm not saying or
implying that it isn't. However with it running with superuser
permissions putting openwebmail on a publicly accessible server seems
like an awfully big risk to me.
