[cobalt-users] HIMEM KERNEL problem

Hi

       Though this is a question of redbat linux. 7.3
version
question but i need help if anybody answers me!!

Our server processor is an intel compatible Via Giga 3
processor.
Originally we installed linux with the cd and the
version of kernel
was config-2.4.18-3. and RAM 128mb. We have added
altogether 1GB
ram. but after installation we found that ram 1GB was
not
incorporated. This is the message from /var/log/dmesg
file

Warning only 896MB will be used.
Use a HIGHMEM enabled kernel.
On node 0 totalpages: 229376
zone(0): 4096 pages.
zone(1): 225280 pages.
zone(2): 0 pages.

now we have patched our kernel with registering with
Redhat with the
.rpm file. This is the latest version of the kernel
now.

[root@server boot]# rpm -q kernel
kernel-2.4.18-3
kernel-2.4.18-19.7.x

Then rebooted our system again but still the himem
error is there.
After checking in the net we found one url
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Linux/Q_20258095.html

According to this url i have changed the kernel config
file
and made the entry CONFIG_2GB=1 and made changes in
the /etc/lilo.conf
file for
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-19.7.x
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hda2
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-19.7.x.img
        append="mem=1024M"
~
Now my question is there is an instruction in this url
that we need
to compile the kernel. But how i will compile? I did
%lilo it is ok

Help is needed very urgently.

Regards.
-Swapna
