Hiya,
As most of you probably know, very little evidence of Qbalt has surfaced -
this is because I simply don't have access to a Cobalt physically, so
getting the install side of things working is pretty much an impossiblity.
I got offered access to a RaQ3, but this is over 80km's away, and I
currently don't have transport, so the project's on a standstill.
Noticed discussion though about commercial alternatives to Cobalt units -
Qbalt was aimed at both Cobalt units and any x86 machine running Debian.
Qbalt is basically debian stable, but with our own packages sitting on top,
providing a web interface/tools to manage/install/configure debian packages,
and the server in general.
(In other words, it'll look and act pretty much like a Cobalt does now, but
with more functionality)
What I can release within a few weeks, if anybody's interested, is an apt
source which can be thrown onto any bare Debian 3.0 install, and on getting
the right package, will install required dependencies (apache, python, exim,
etc) and bring up a web interface providing what I've already done on Qbalt
right now (which provides basic Cobalt-like web functionality). I can write
a walkthrough, so it should be reasonably easy for most people to get
started with it.
This would make a nice GPL alternative to the Cobalt units, and hopefully
it'll mean more people working on this project (so when I get the Cobalt
install side of things happening, we'll have a pretty functional product
ready to go).
Anybody interested?
