I'd not say "at all costs".  CNames have limited use... the big
downside is they can force the resolver to make another query.
Ironically, the situations in which another query is required are
the situations in which CNames are most useful. :-(  One also
must watch out for infinite loops.

Also:  You may wish to check terminology.  "DNS Pointer" sounds
too much like a PTR RR, which has a different meaning. :-)
