Sorry, _all_ the top (executive) people from Cobalt have gone on to
better things... Steven DeWitt left almost a year ago, and Vivek
Mehra just left in July or August.
Most of the original engineering team is still in place (I think), but
they're now focused 'exclusively' on Sun Linux and the LX50 and Mad
Hatter projects... They're all under Neil Knox (long-time Sun
person).
There have been discussions within Sun about 'open sourcing' the UI. A
main problem is that they don't have immediate plans to discontinue
the Control Station product, and it is Sausalito-based (same as 550
and Qube 3). We _might_ have some success with the RaQ 4 stuff, but
they would insist on removing or otherwise altering the Sun ONE ASP
stuff, as well as the patented bandwidth management kernel module and
the LCD stuff. I'll make some more inquiries with the (few) people I
know that are left there. But I'm not hopeful at all...
I'd like it if they took a StarOffice/OpenOffice approach to the
project...
