Bruce's post, even though Bruce no longer works for Cobalt, makes it
painfully clear that those of us with more than a few systems (I think
we've got about 30 in our closet, owned by various people, and I know
there are a few companies with hundreds to even thousands) need to
consider our costs of replacement.
If you've got a hundred RaQs, and all of a sudden there's no security
updates for them, you've got a $150,000 bill in front of you to replace
hardware and management software. So you may be interested.
For example, if you can buy a new server for $1,000 and a management
system for $300 to $500, and then pay $200/year for support, wouldn't
you rather just buy a software update service for $200/year? (Note that
no eventual price is implied; this is just an example.)

As I've said before, this list is an incredibly small part of the Cobalt
RaQ-users' community. One issue is reaching that community. I'm
already working on it <smile>.

Based on responses so far this morning, I think there are <smile>. At
least to take the preliminary action of having a mailing list to discuss
alternatives.

For owners of only one or two systems perhaps, but what about those of
us who have a lot invested?
