I would just like to mention, that I did this upgrade on a RaQ3i back in
Arpil 2002.
I installed a K6-2 500Mhz Cpu 2.2vc and did the copper-wire trick. All
went went well for months, until December 14th 2002 when the cpu cooked
itself, on checking /proc/cpuinfo, the idle temp was a steady 42deg and
under load 78deg .. after some weeks of overheating it finally failed
and caused the kernel to oops.
I realised things were a awry, after php would fail to compile and some
other weird things started to occur.
After taking the boxen down and replacing the stock K6-2 300Mhz cpu my
idle temp was back to 29 deg.
I would suggest making sure enough cooling aids are added to the box, as
the standard "Suck air over the cpu heatsink" cobalt style method is a
little worrying.
Just my 2p worth.
