[cobalt-users] Msg for Gerald Waugh - re fried BIOS on Raq4i

Gerald
Hope you can help. understand that you are working on this. I was
restoring the OS on my Raq4i. Made the mistake of using a Raq550 CD,
but as I realised this, thought 'what the hell, I have seen posts that
it worked', so I went regardless. Wished I had not. After flashing the
BIOS which seemed OK, it said reboot now, so I did and it has not talked
to me since. I have seen precious little positive news on recovery from
this, just that you may also be involved in a recovery attempt. Unless
you, or someone else, has a way around this, then my thoughts are to get
a refurb Raq3, pull the motherboard, swap the CPU (or get another faster
than 300Mhz jobbie) and drop the lot into the Raq4 chassis and upgrade
this lot with the Raq4 OS. Yes, I may be bending Suns license
agreement, but I do have a Raq4 that is sitting there gathering dust, so
I don't feel like I am ripping them off, it's not as if I haven't paid
them for a Raq4... Symptoms (other than not talking to me) are no
status LED on front panel, no reaction to pressing S with, or without a
power on, top row of LCD display shows all pixels as black, bottom row
clear. I translate this as the cobalt equivalent of rigor mortis!
